Academics
The Academic Excellence Indicator System of Texas (AEIS) was established by the Texas Legislature to provide a way to evaluate the educational performance of the local school district and of each campus in relation to the other schools in the state of Texas.
School accountability ratings issued by the state are based on the percent of students in all grades passing the TAAS Reading, Mathematics, and Writing; the dropout rate; in addition to other requirements. Performance standards for TAAS and dropout rates must be met for all students as well as for student groups (African- American, Hispanic, White, and Economically Disadvantaged). Some schools may qualify for an "Additional Acknowledgment" for performance on the college admissions tests, TAAS/TASP Equivalency, Recommended High School Program and attendance.
The four possible Accreditation/Accountability ratings assigned to schools by the Texas Education Agency are: Exemplary, Recognized, Acceptable, or Low Performing.
Forney ISD received a TEA "RECOGNIZED" Accreditation Status for 2000-2001. This is the second highest academic rating available. Forney ISD has previously received an "EXEMPLARY" rating for the previous year and "RECOGNIZED" for the preceeding five years. Additionally, Forney ISD earned an "ACKNOWLEDGED" for attendance and the Recommended High School Program.
Forney Primary and Forney Intermediate Schools combined together earned an "EXEMPLARY" designation for 2000-2001 which means that all students in each student group made at least 90 percent passing on each subject area on the TAAS test and was "ACCEPTABLE" for the previous year and "RECOGNIZED" for the three
preceding years.
Forney Middle School received a TEA "RECOGNIZED" campus rating for the 2000-2001 year. FMS was "EXEMPLARY" for the two previous years.
Forney High School received a TEA "EXEMPLARY" campus rating for the 200-2001 school year. Forney High School has been "Recognized" for a total of five out of the last six years.
The full 2000-2001 Academic Excellence Indicator System Report will be available in the office and library of each school, the Ellen Brooks West Memorial Library, and in the District's administration office upon final arrival from Texas Education Agency in October or November.
During the past ten years, the FISD has experienced steady growth averaging six percent a year. The student population has grown from 1,762 students in 93-94 to 2,426 in 99-00, a 30 percent increase.
Forney students compared very favorably to others in Texas, scoring well above the state average at almost every level and subject area of the state-mandated TAAS.
In addition to the outstanding academic
achievements in the FISD, we also have
wonderful extra curricular activities.
